Design Challenge
Interaction Situation
Humans and robots move in the same area. The robot carries out a specific task. The robot communicates that it is carrying out its task and must not be disturbed in the process.
Communication
Goal
“I am working.”
Design Solution
Solution
Let the robot indicate what activity it is currently performing. This can be done with the help of a meaningful icon that is projected using light or displayed on a screen: For light projection, it is recommended to use two-color icons and a neutral color (ice blue). The projection should be made onto the floor in front of and behind the robot and displayed continuously (until other floor projections are displayed, if applicable). Alternatively, the icon can be displayed on a screen.
Rationale
Many technical appliances display their working status for a better understanding. One application example is the dishwasher, which projects its status onto the floor in front of it.
