Interaction Situation

The robot is active, but there is currently no need or wish for interaction from the user’s side. The robot can therefore retreat to a position where it is not in the way and divert its attention away from the user. It changes from active to inactive.

“I am changing from a ready, active to a passive, inactive state where I am still available, but not capable of initiating interactions with you.”

Design Solution

Solution

Let the robot express that:
  • The transition from the state of being Ready to Inside turn through a dynamic change of posture.
  • The transition from Attentive to Passively available through a smooth movement around the room.
  • Its operation mode is , setting the status light to permanently glowing (Operation mode on).

  • Make the process of disabling some functionalities explicit by a sound jingle (Going to sleep, https://pattern-wiki.iao.fraunhofer.de/?p=800
