Design Challenge
Interaction Situation
The robot is inactive and a need or wish from the user’s side arises to initiate an interaction. The robot changes from inactive to active to reach a state in which all of its sensors are active, it is focused on the user, and it can react to and initiate interactions right away
Communication
Goal
“I am changing from a passive, inactive to an active state where I am fully ready to interaction with you.”
Design Solution
Solution
Let the robot express that: The transition from the state of Inside turn to Ready through a dynamic change of posture. The transition from Passively available to Attentive through a smooth movement around the room. Its operation mode is , setting the status light to permanently glowing (Operation mode on). Optionally: Make the process of making all interaction functionalities available explicit by a sound jingle (Booting, https://patternwiki.iao.fraunhofer.de/?p=796)
Rationale
The pattern describes the transition between the two Composed Patterns “Inactive” and “Active”. The reasoning behind these patterns can be found in their pattern descriptions as well as those of the related Atomic Patterns.
